What inspires you? Here guest-writer, Heidi Attir, speaks of the wondrous night sky...
***
There are abundant sources of inspiration all around us, from the magnificent works of nature, to the kind words of a friend or stranger, to great works of art or literature. I am inspired most often by the sky. Every changing, ever fascinating, looming large over the planet and its inhabitants - the brilliance of the sky is a gift to be acknowledged and treasured.
In my darkest or most reflective moments, I look to the sky as a way
to connect to my Higher Power. I am reminded how small I am and how
small my problems are in the grand scheme of the universe. Being able
to put my problems and my life in perspective is generally the first
step to finding a solution. The solution can certainly not be bigger
than me. When the sky is clear and bright, it is difficult to remain
melancholy.
When the sun streams through the clouds, I am reminded to quiet myself and listen to God speak because it is only by calming my mind and releasing my need for control that I can truly hear his words. Whatever I am doing, wherever I am going, I stop. Even if it is just for a moment, I give Him my attention and say a silent prayer of gratitude. I know He is with me and that His light and warmth, shown to me through his magnificent sky, is a physical manifestation of his love for me.
The night sky evokes introspection in me. As my day winds down, I look to the sky and reflect on the events of my day, those that went well and those that didn't. I am able to think about what I could have done to make my day, and the day of those I came in contact with, better. The beautiful calm of the night sky, with its tiny lights of hope, transition each morning into a new day. The world is bright again. Just as the sky is renewed daily, I am renewed. I am given a second chance. With this second chance, I am given new hope and peace.
